Briggs - January 2008
Background & Testimonial:
Briggs of Burton specialise in Process Engineering solutions for the Brewing & Distilling, Food, Health & Beauty and Pharmaceutical sectors - and are one of the most established businesses in the sector.
Recent success with a number of blue chip clients has meant a long-term planned expansion has taken place in the business and Briggs therefore needed to recruit enough engineers, of the right calibre, to support growth needs.
In the early part of 2008 Briggs launched a campaign to recruit approximately ten new engineers in Mechanical, Project Engineering, Process (Chemical) and Automation & Control roles. We briefed a small number of agencies (new to ourselves), as existing relationships were not delivering the required results.
Despite co-existing in Burton for a number of years, Jenrick Engineering was one of the new agencies briefed. Scott Davies and Paul Norton came and listened to our needs and were given a good understanding of the business in a two-hour briefing session.
Our technical needs were spelt-out as well as what Briggs regarded as the key success factors in a successful long-term relationship. Amongst these were:
- An understanding of the business, its people and its needs
- A close adherence to the recruitment spec’
- A minimum of fluff/padding in the response
- Solid communication
- Lots of legwork at the agency – minimum of bother at Briggs of Burton
- An ability to find the right people
Paul Norton picked up the Briggs brief and was, by a substantial margin, the most successful in running with it. He has already gone a long way towards finding the people Briggs need. As is frequently the case, the brief has evolved as the search has gone on, and Paul has proved adept at changing with it.
It is somewhat unusual for Briggs to offer a "testimonial" of this sort – but in this instance we are happy to do so, in recognition of the fact that Paul has worked his socks off to deliver for us in this campaign.
