Senior Mechanical Design Engineers
You can expect salaries of between £35,000 - £45,000 (with benefits), for roles that are frequently team leader based where you would be expected to take clear project ownership and initiative. In essence, taking full responsibility for the design process for your given projects.
For this you will be expected to have 4-6 years of related industry experience, a degree in Engineering / Mechanical Engineering and preferably hold Chartered Engineer Status.
Competency in 3D design programmes such as; Solidworks, AutoCAD (2006 onwards), Catia (v4 onwards), Pro/Engineer (Pro/E) or similar 3D design programmes is essential.
Within your CV, we would urge you to demonstrate examples of your ability for self-motivation and management, plus your ability to lead others. Exemplary project management skills are essential and should be highlighted within applications, as well as achievements within previous projects or posts.
Mechanical Design Engineers
Usually command salaries of £25,000 - £35,000 (with benefits), with an average of 3 years experience within a related role, plus a minimum of an HNC in Engineering.
As with Senior roles, you would be expected to be fully trained/competent in 3D software such as Solidworks.
Usually you will be working as part of a project team, and as the Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be expected to take on specific aspects of the overall design process. This may take the form of developing one niche aspect of the product, creating detailed manufacturing drawings or taking responsibility for the procurement of appropriate materials.
